Linda Dennis — with a background in education for teachers, software development and retail — developed the core concept for a social media tools software product and presented to the military as one solution for deployed service members and their families during separation. For 4 years, she presented at the National Guard Family Programs (joint staff), and established relationships with the Office of the Secretary of Defense, COMREL Department. For two consecutive years, she produced the event, “The Pentagon Courtyard Event – arts and crafts” for the children of the families who work at the Pentagon – “Take your sons and daughters to work day!” and also developed Monthofthemilitarychild.com – April is the month of the Military Child, and supporting activities, including arts and crafts plus lesson plans for teachers. Seeing a need to help Guard Youth communicate with their deployed parents, she developed the concept: A Backpack Journalism (BPJ), and then oversaw a pilot test with Texas Military Forces, Youth Council in 2008 and partnered with David Knight and Mike McLean, Photojournalist. Linda Dennis is a published author and publisher of instructional technology projects, projects and publications for arts and crafts activities, and recipient of numerous designs patents/trademarks/copyrights for consumer products. She is currently also known as MS. D. to military youth/children and Nana to Ruthie.
