Coming in June – a variety of remembrances from Charleston, SC to be shared. Charleston Strong continues today.
Going back ten years. The A Backpack Journalist afterschool program, with a few of the 4th and 5th grade students, working within the Charleston Promise Neighborhood had just returned from Vorhees College on a campus experience that included a dorm stay, athletics with classroom and at night journaling. Encouraged by Bakari Sellers, a friend to our program, and his father the President of Vorhees, these young African American boys had an experience like no other! With teachers (Principal Shaw and Joyner, with “me”).
To summarize: it was educational, fun and spiritual. The next day: 9 lives lost. We placed our respects at Mother Emanuel AME Church, began to gather information as reporters and writers. We were blessed with contributions from other children in Charleston in this video! And from the Citizenry of Charleston. many signs!
The video shared here was assembled by our team of young backpackers (4th to 5th grade), edited by a talented young man, now a local teacher and today, all young adults, graduated and in careers, still members of our family.
More included in this short film.
