Today, spent time with Rick Wise, Military Historian and Brigadier General Francis Marion’s Historian, and one of the authors of the Francis Marion papers (available free on SC250.com).
We traveled the route that SWAMP FOX would have taken back in 1779 – 1781-2.
We began at Witherspoon Ferry and moved forward in the PEE DEE. As we walked, Rick shared on camera and we filmed, All about the historical significance of where we were and the successful skirmishes that he was known for. Through Streamable Learning, we are making a film of today.
Best for me I walked the walk, and even came close to the swamps near Dunham Bluff right across from Snow’s Island, one of Francis Marion’s camp. Looking down I cannot imagine (there goes that word – imagine) what it was like back in 1780 or so -amongst the wet forests – the swamps. And, they lived there.
As we walked Rick on camera shared so much our the Southern Campaign’s history with the Swamp Fox leading the way in so many of the skirmishes. Without his strategic wins one wonders what would have been the outcome.
HUZZAH. HUZZAH. HUZZAH – what a great day in the PEE DEE. Thanks to Streamable Learning for this adventure -soon to be shared with the K-12 schools in South Carolina. #SC250. To Rick Wise for sharing his incredible knowledge about my most favorite personal hero; THE SWAMP FOX.
A film of the play coming soon – stay tuned.
Pictures here!
